August 5-9, 2000.     1400 miles

What can you say about the Black Hills Rally centered in Sturgis, SD? Unbelievable! I drove up Saturday and the road became predominantly motorcycles only slightly north of Denver. I stayed at the Buffalo Chip Campground 3 miles east of Sturgis, where I saw 4 outstanding concerts over the four nights I was there: Cheap Trick, Blue Oyster Cult, Kenny Wayne Shepard, and Montgomery Gentry/Marshall Tucker Band. The first day I was there I took a ride with Tim, his brother Russ, and his girlfriend Kelly to see Devils Tower near Hulett, Wyoming. We rode back through Deadwood (where Kelly treated us to an outstanding gourmet meal). The second day was spent browsing the vendors in Sturgis, and the third day I rode through Rapid City (madhouse), Custer State Park, Custer, and Deadwood.

My tent is under the green tarp. I was hoping to get a little closer to the stage!

The tower is visible from miles away.

We managed to climb part way up the huge boulder field at the base of the tower. Quite a View!
